End is the final instalment of David Eldridge’s trilogy of plays for the National Theatre, also made up of Beginning and Middle, in which he follows the story of a couple, any couple, in three pivotal moments of their relationship. Each of the plays is performed by a different pair of actors. 2025 has been a busy year for GutBer’s Travels, both in terms of real trips, and life experiences and academic successes. Let's take a quick look back at our 2025 wrap!

It's the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, the immortal author of works such as Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, among others. Across the United Kingdom, the cities where Miss Austen spent part of her short life (Bath and Winchester, for example) have dedicated all of 2025 to organizing events in her honour

Last December, Twelfth Night, starring Sam West, premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company. We had the privilege of seeing this production on New Year's Day. Now it transfers to the Barbican Centre in London for the Christmas season.

Last month we were able to visit the Dorfman Theatre for the first time, one of the National Theatre venues on London's Southbank, following its recent reopening after a temporary closure for maintenance. We were going to see David Lan's new play, The Land of the Living,  starring Juliet Stevenson and Tom Wlaschiha, whom we remember as the Many-Faced God from Game of Thrones.

Capercaillie is a Scottish folk band with over four decades of experience behind them. A few days ago, they revisited what they call their second home, A Coruña, and delighted us at the Teatro Colón with a two-hour concert that we were lucky enough to enjoy from the front row.

The musical that recreates how the biggest musical event in history came to happen, the famous Live Aid concert in July 1985, is now in its second season at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London's West End as Just for One Day. The concert was organised to raise funds to alleviate hunger in Ethiopia

Based on Michael Holroyd's biography of this talented family, A Strange Eventful History: The Dramatic Lives of Ellen Terry, Henry Irving and Their Remarkable Families, David Hare presented his latest play, Grace Pervades, at the Theatre Royal Bath from June 27 to July 19, 2025, before moving on to London's West End in 2026.

The Ralph Fiennes Season at the Theatre Royal Bath expands from late June to mid October 2025 and includes the world premiere of two new plays by wellknown playwrights (David Hare and Rebecca Lenkiewicz), a new production of Shakespeare's As You Like It and performances by Patti Smith and Kae Tempest.

In Spain it is known as Día de los Inocentes, but celebrated on the first day of April in most other countries and known as April Fool's Day
