2025 has been a busy year for GutBer’s Travels, both in terms of real trips, and life experiences and academic successes. Let's take a quick look back at our 2025 wrap!
We started the year in the UK, in Birmingham, revisiting places from our childhood. There we met Mr. Fox and took the opportunity to visit Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, a short train ride from Birmingham. We saw the beautiful Tudor-style houses, Shakespeare's birthplace, his school, his wife Anne Hathaway's cottage, and more. We also had the privilege of attending a performance of Twelfth Night at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre with Sam West as Malvolio and members of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). A dream come true to start 2025 ticking boxes! Back in London, we stopped by the Globe Theatre on the Southbank and attended the customary pantomime in a hidden West End theatre, where we had a fantastic time.
Shortly before Easter, we returned to the capital to see Brian Cox (Succession) at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the title role of The Score, a true masterclass in acting in a relevant play about the senseless tragedy of war. Following the same topic, but set against the backdrop of events connected with the Second World War, the National Theatre also gave us the opportunity to see the brilliant Juliet Stevenson in David Lan's latest play, The Land of the Living.
We visited Bath, the city of the Roman baths, several times to follow the Ralph Fiennes Season, which ran at the Theatre Royal Bath between June and October of this year. There, we attended the world premieres of the latest works by David Hare (Grace Pervades, opening in London's West End in April 2026) and Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Small Hotel, starring Francesca Annis), as well as Fiennes' directorial debut with William Shakespeare's As You Like It, starring Harriet Walter. We enjoyed the city and its abbey, its Georgian architecture, its beautiful surroundings, the friendliness of its people and we also celebrated Jane Austen's 250th anniversary in grand style.
This led us to end the year back in the area, this time in Bristol, from where we travelled to Wales for brief visits to Cardiff and Newport, the southern cities closest to England, as well as Bradford-on-Avon to see the Saxon church and other medieval remains preserved there. We also visited medieval monuments in Reading and Salisbury on the train journeys to and from the region. Back in London, the mandatory visit to the theatre took us back to the National Theatre where we enjoyed End, David Eldridge's latest play starring Saskia Reeves (Slow Horses) and Clive Owen. Of course, a pantomime was a must, so we said goodbye to London for this time by attending The Play That Goes Wrong, before returning home to face 2026 with huge smiles and renewed energy to start the new year with all of you and your new successes.

In the summer, we managed to gather all the branches of the family: the Australian, the British, and the Galician (from A Coruña), in the historic city of Winchester, the former capital of the medieval kingdom of Wessex. It was an unforgettable gathering in a stunning setting where we could catch up and finally allow the younger generations to meet in person. In Winchester we visited the cathedral and the statue of King Arthur, but we also had the opportunity to travel in a classic Bentley! Back in London we went to see the Live Aid musical (Just For One Day), Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter) in Mrs. Warren’s Profession, and return to our beloved Globe Theatre to see The Merry Wives of Windsor.
In addition to all these special journeys, we've also travelled linguistically with our English Syntax and Legal English online courses, and we've been proud to see that all our students who decided to take an official exam this year have far exceeded our expectations. Once again, we've had a 100% pass rate in syntax exams at various universities and TOLES, as well as at all levels, from B1 to C2, in both school and adult exams, from Cambridge and the EOI. Some of you have made an extra effort by passing these exams while also preparing for university entrance exams, thus embarking on a new stage in your personal journey, which we are sure will be a total success.
It has definitely been a very exciting year! Thank you for allowing us to be part of your life journey and your English learning. We couldn't have asked for better company to face 2026!
